Just come on out and say that you will believe any and everything that discredits President Obama because you are not ready to accept the fact that we don’t have a White man running the White House. Regardless of what he releases, there will be a next one and then a next one coming from the ultra right wing. They will eventually want DNA from him to prove that he is human and not a monkey. If he continues to give into these demands, he is giving credit to the most craziest of our society. They have no intentions of ever accepting President Obama. It goes beyond his policies. If so, there would be a big uproar about his policies, voting record as opposed to his school records and birth certificate.

I am sure that I am right in my assertion that releasing this long form does nothing more than create more opportunities for crazy nutjob conspiracies.

Sure, it might seem like "giving in" to the enemy -- responding to right-wing hysteria and releasing the long-form birth certificate. But here's why the move is a canny one:

It keeps the issue in the news. Even more so, it gives it that much more visibility. And let's face it, this is a huge loser for the GOP. What better way to show how out-of-touch and irrational Republicans are, than to rub this in their face.

The media has already treated the birthers harshly, equating them with the truthers (and deservedly so). But while the truthers never got buy in from any progressive of note, the birthers have been fully embraced by top conservative leaders. Heck, Donald Trump has based his presidential flirtations entirely on birtherism. So if the media was harsh to the birthers before today, how do you think they'll react when the headlines are: Trump Adviser: Even If Long-Form Birth Certificate Is Genuine, It Doesn’t Prove Anything.

The narrative now is how Republicans deal with this outburst of crazy. It's the kind of GOP vs GOP story we rarely get. Enjoy it.

The entire birther movement used to revolve around the single question: "Why won't Obama release his long-form birth certificate". While their claims were idiotic, that demand had a smidgeon of reasonableness to it. Now that Obama has verified the obvious, the birthers have lost all semblance of rationality. At this point, those who cling to their Kenyan theories are beyond redemption. (As we all knew they were.)

Look, there's a reason why key Republican strategists are trying to shut this thing down.

Top Republicans who see the “birther” movement as a potential harm to their party are again disavowing the disproven conspiracy theory that Barack Obama was born overseas and is ineligible to be president.

The head of the RNC has been waging a losing battle for his party's sanity:

The chairman of the Republican National Committee said Tuesday President Obama was born in the U.S., with Reince Priebus' comment coming as questions about Obama's birthplace face a revival, fueled lately in part by Donald Trump, who is mulling a 2012 GOP presidential bid.

Karl Rove, among others has minced no words about it:

Former Bush adviser Karl Rove is calling on GOP politicians to avoid falling into the “birther” movement trap and to stop fueling rumors that President Barack Obama was not born in the United States.

“Within our party, we’ve got to be very careful about allowing these people who are the birthers and the 9/11-deniers to get too high a profile and say too much without setting the record straight,” Rove said Wednesday night on Fox News.

Rove spun his own fantastic conspiracy theory -- that the White House was behind the birther rumors. That was patently ridiculous at the time, but no longer. The White House has smartly thrown kerosene on the fire. Rove is right, the issue is impossible for the media to cover without making Republicans look insane. So the more Team Obama can focus attention on the fact that just a third of Republicans believe Obama is a U.S. citizen, the better for Team Blue.

So today's move was nothing short of brilliant.

But, if you will remember me saying, I am a WHY Birther, which is WHY hasn't Obama resolved this for three years. But like I told FUT last night, I sensed a change coming because Anderson Cooper slipped into the "Trump" role too easily when he asked, "Why not just cough it up and resolve it!!!"

Annie -- as far as I can tell, there never really was a birth certificate issue, but if you mean by that birtherism in general, I don't admit it's about racism either. Or rather, I have no doubt that some birthers are motivated by racism, but certainly not all.

One prominent birther is Orly Taitz, and while I used to spend too much time reading her blog, I never saw one racist word there. She certainly has giant mountain of anti-Muslim bigotry, and she apparently sees some connection between Obama and Muslims that she never manages to articulate -- but I see no evidence of any racism toward black people. So there's at least one major example.

I'm not going to say who "won" or who "caved". I only know that this is a sad country, when a sitting President has to address right wing nutters and conspiracy theorists. Obama took the high road for 3 years and that didn't work. He let them squirm but he also helped create nutters, like Squeeky.

Releasing his long-form birth certificate will be helpful in the future, (especially on tv) during "birther" debates or or other ridiculous speculation.

But again, I want print and television media to go one step further and discuss this as a bigoted issue.

but you sound like you are 'surprised' about all of this. this country has a LOT of bigots and people that can not, and WILL not, accept a black man being in the white house. especially one who's middle name is hussein. all this birth certificate and "Obama's grades" garbage is a cover for them being a bunch of f'kn bigots.

Obama's Presidency did not prove that this country is not racist. what it did was get the significant portion of this country that IS racist, a reason to rachet up their garbage. how many times have you heard one of these baggers or repubs claim "i wasn't a racist until Obama came into office"? we all know that's straight bullchit.

I don't think anyone is surprised Bumpy - we all understand exactly what is behind both a big part of the zealotry in the Birther movement and it is the same thing that is behind a huge number of the zealots in the Tea Party. Remember the nasty signs before they were told to stop?

But Annie is right in that it is very sad for the US in general that it has come to this - that Obama was forced to respond to conspiracies based on hate. I remember all the emails I got from acquaintances around the world on election night/morning in November 2008. Several people said to me that they were very proud of Americans for being able to pick the best candidate for the job.

But the haters did not take long to erupt along - and hence the Birthers and the Tea Party were given strength in numbers and voices.

Nothing will change - mark my words - the Birthers will continue.

IMO this is what separates African/Americans like President Obama and people like Bumpy and SheShe. The former chooses NOT to acquiesce - but simply to be peaceful and beneficial, the teachings of Martin Luther King. Whereas the latter are following people like the Black Panthers - sorry but that's how I see it - I see aggression, confrontation -hate - and all that goes with it - This is what separates the different factions - is this racism? Certain words mean different different things to different people -
