OMG, just when you think part of this mess may be coming to a end, now there are SERIOUS questions about the long form. Karl Denninger is NOT a Birther. He is a very HONEST person and has a Economy website which I read every day. BUT, watch his video, at the bottom of the post:

Squeeky, if you look at the lower right of the document released you see that it says:
I CERTIFY THIS IS A TRUE COPY OR ABSTRACT OF THE RECORD ON FILE IN THE HAWAII STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH.
Why the choice? Why not say what it is? Obviously it is a means for covering "mistakes."

Oh, here come the attacks. I ask a SIMPLE QUESTION, and I don't even know the answer myself. Karl Denninger is NOT the same person who said the COLB was fake, because I said that was stupid too. Karl Denninger is NOT even a Birther.He is using his real name, and says anybody can do what he is doing.
I don't know about this stuff, and don't understand it well enough to decide yet. But, I think he is saying this is something that is included in the actual file thingy on the White House website.

squeeky -- Denninger takes a look at the PDF the White House posted. He opens it up, and sees a bunch of stuff he didn't expect.
So he concludes that the PDF must be a fake. Had it been me, I would have considered the possibility that my expectations were incorrect.

squeeky -- your statement that Denninger is not a birther seems untrue, but I won't argue it because it also doesn't matter. (Though as we have discussed many times before, the word "birther" can be definied many ways.)
Most people probably think that when you scan a document to PDF, that means that the scanner just takes a picture and the picture does in the PDF. It can happen this way, but usually scanning software wants to get much fancier. It takes the picture from the scanner, then separates it into layers and performs various optimizations on the layers. All this is done to make things more readable and make the file smaller. But of course the fact that all this is going on is not obvious to users -- then scan, view, and print, and never notice that this happened behind the scenes.
Denninger opened the file and found that there were layers. It is true, I have looked at this file and there are layers. Maybe he should look at a few other scanned files before he concludes this is a big conspiracy.

Thank you for that explanation. That is one reason why I am holding off on making an opinion on this. If the stuff is in the file itself, then other people can look at it, too, and the truth will come out pretty soon. I just saw on Hardball, where somebody at FOX is doing the same kind of thing.
Personally, I hope the long form is real so we can move on to the WHY questions without the Kenya thingy hanging over everybody's head. Because like I have said for along time, if Obama was born in Hawaii or Connecticut, then we could get the limb sawed off behind us.

these partial/pseudo-text images were created and saved. What’s not
plausible is that the government spent all this time manufacturing
Obama’s birth certificate only to commit the laughably rookie mistake of
exporting the layers from Photoshop, or whatever photo editing software
they are meant to have used. It’s likely that whoever scanned the birth

Got that birthers? The government agency that issued the document says the image is the real thing. So again the state of HI is confirming that the long form BC is legitimate and they are confirming the information listed on the document....

There is definitely some confusion about this thing. The fact is, there is nothing out of the ordinary about this PDF. Not all PDFs look like this one -- the PDF format has enormous flexibility in how images are stored -- but this PDF is not out of the ordinary. It is not a screw-up that the file was not flattened -- the optimizations that are realized by separating the image into layers are to some extent undone by flattening.
The people who are all excited about this should look at a few more PDFs. I think the layer separation is typical of Adobe and Mac OSX scanning software, at least, unless these optimizations have been turned off.
We should also recognize that what this PDF looks like has no bearing on whether the document that was scanned is valid.
squeeky -- where's the "AP copy" you're talking about? I might be able to answer that question if I took a look.

Squeeky, you should have been an attorney - I say this because you come back with comebacks for every one that's thrown at you. This takes a lot of talent. In court, there's a line that the judge gives to the jury as an instruction - a reasonable assumption can be made that indeed it did snow if one wakes up and sees snow on the tree branches. I've been reading - just got here - I agree with SPG regarding Squeeky - (I hope you liked my critique on your talents, Squeeky). I also want to add something else about Squeeky. I sense that most people DO like her.
